The Canyon
Towering cliffs of ochre and brown sweep dramatically upward, leaving just a sliver of pale blue sky trapped between them. Tanner uses bold, sweeping brushstrokes to carve out the rugged terrain, making the rock faces feel almost alive with movement and texture. Down in the depths, a dark, mysterious mass sits beside a swirling stream, completely dwarfed by the immense, crushing scale of the gorge. While best known for his deeply spiritual biblical scenes, this dramatic landscape proves he was equally masterful at capturing the raw, untamed forces of the natural world.
