Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains (Ziming Scroll) on Paper 25x624
Huang Gongwang spent years perfecting this panoramic landscape of the Fuchun River, adding brushstrokes whenever inspiration struck. The original became so legendary that a Qing dynasty collector ordered it burned on his deathbed, and a nephew only saved it by snatching it from the fire, tearing it in two. This specific version is the famous 'Ziming scroll' copy, which actually fooled Emperor Qianlong so completely that he covered it with his own poems—only to later discover the real masterpiece had been hiding in plain sight all along! Today, it remains a stunning example of traditional Chinese ink wash painting, stretching over six meters long.
