Der nachlassende Sturm by Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, 1880

Aivazovsky was practically obsessed with the ocean, painting over 6,000 seascapes in his lifetime, and this 1880 masterpiece shows exactly why. A lone sailing ship battles through the churning, foam-capped waves as the dark, brooding storm clouds finally begin to part, letting a sliver of hope and light pierce the gloom. It's a classic example of Romanticism, where nature's raw, terrifying power is on full display, yet the ship presses on bravely. You can almost feel the salt spray and hear the wind howling just by looking at those perfectly rendered waves!
