Giovane con la barba
ca. 1555
Tintoretto, nicknamed 'Il Furioso' for his lightning-fast painting style, captures a young Venetian gentleman with incredible vitality. The subject's intense, direct gaze and unruly curls suggest a bold personality, while the luxurious white spotted fur cloak—likely expensive lynx—screams 16th-century status. Instead of smooth, polished finishes, Tintoretto uses loose, energetic brushstrokes that make the fur look like it's practically vibrating, prefiguring Impressionism by centuries.
