A School for Boys and Girls
Step into the ultimate chaotic classroom, where the schoolmaster is far more interested in puffing on his long pipe than keeping order! Jan Steen, who was also a brewer and innkeeper, fills this room with kids fighting, sleeping, and playing pranks while the schoolmistress tries to maintain some sanity. This scene is so famously messy that the Dutch still use the phrase 'a Jan Steen household' to describe an unruly home today. It’s a hilarious look at 17th-century education where learning definitely took a backseat to mischief.
