Jolgorio en una taberna
probably 1674
Step into the ultimate 17th-century Dutch party, where a violinist is literally playing for his life perched high on a wooden beam! Jan Steen, the master of chaotic genre scenes, fills this bustling tavern with dancing drunks, a nursing mother, and a mischievous boy teasing a cat with a scrap of meat. While it looks like pure, unadulterated fun, Steen was actually a moralist in disguise; his wild 'Jan Steen households' were meant to warn viewers about the dangers of overindulgence and losing control.
