마리노, 바위 꼭대기의 대형 건물

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot

마리노, 바위 꼭대기의 대형 건물 by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot

Corot was essentially the godfather of Impressionism, and you can see why in this rugged sketch of the Italian town of Marino. Painted during his travels in the 1820s, he perched himself outdoors to capture the buildings clinging to the cliffside with loose, energetic brushstrokes. Instead of a polished, perfect finish, he went for raw texture and fleeting light, treating the canvas like a visual diary. This spontaneous style was revolutionary for its time and directly paved the way for the Impressionist masters who would follow.
