Due bambine by Kate Greenaway, 1885

Kate Greenaway was the superstar of Victorian children's illustration, famous for making kids look like they stepped out of a Regency-era dream. Here, she’s dressed two little girls in the height of 1880s fashion—complete with enormous hats topped with feathers, ruffled collars, and dresses with dramatic, poufy bustles. Notice how they hold their parasols like proper little ladies? Her style was actually so influential that it created a real-world fashion craze, with mothers everywhere dressing their children in 'Greenaway style' to capture this sweet, nostalgic look.
