Noè by Lorenzo Monaco, ca. 1408-10

Here is Noah, looking less like a rugged survivor of a global flood and more like a holy king draped in brilliant blue robes. He holds a tiny, geometric model of the Ark in his lap that looks suspiciously like a modern birdhouse, sitting against a background of cracked gold leaf that screams 'divine importance.' Lorenzo Monaco painted this around 1408 in the International Gothic style, where spiritual symbolism and rich colors mattered way more than realistic perspective.
