The Dream of St. Joseph
1700
Luca Giordano captures a moment of divine interruption in this dramatic Baroque scene. While the Virgin Mary prays peacefully in the corner, Saint Joseph has dozed off at his carpenter's workbench, his tools scattered in disarray. Suddenly, a winged messenger swoops down from the heavens to deliver a crucial message, while God the Father and a swarm of chubby cherubs watch the whole affair from the clouds above. It's a perfect example of the Baroque love for theatrical lighting and swirling motion!
