Progetto per l'interno di una chiesa
1700-1773
Luigi Vanvitelli, a superstar of Italian Baroque architecture, sketched this blueprint for a church interior, showing us the messy, brilliant middle stage of design. You can spot the faint grid lines he used to keep his proportions perfect—a classic architect's trick—before he fleshed out the fancy window frames and decorative niches. It's like looking over the shoulder of a master builder as he dreams up the dramatic, emotional spaces that would eventually wow 18th-century worshippers.
