舟と夕日
1900 - 1936
Ohara Koson is best known for his hyper-realistic birds, but here he proves he’s a master of mood, too. This serene scene captures a lone fisherman waiting patiently in his boat as a perfect red sun dips toward the horizon. The soft, pastel colors and the shimmering reflection on the water are hallmarks of the shin-hanga movement—a modernist update to traditional Japanese woodblocks that focused on light and atmosphere. It’s a visual lullaby that makes you want to hold your breath so you don't disturb the water.
