Crow at full moon
1900 - 1930
Ohara Koson, a master of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement, captures a striking moment of nature with this bold crow perched on a blossoming branch. The stark black feathers of the bird contrast beautifully against the soft, pale moon and delicate white flowers, creating a serene yet slightly ominous atmosphere. Koson was famous for his incredibly lifelike bird and flower prints, often studying his subjects in the wild to get every feather just right. This piece perfectly blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern sensibility that made his work hugely popular in the West during the early 20th century.
