鹰与捕获的麻雀 by Ohara Koson, 1900 - 1930

Perched high on a snow-heavy branch amidst long, dangling icicles, a fierce goshawk clutches a captured tree sparrow in its talons while another sparrow flutters away below in a panic. Ohara Koson, a master of kacho-e (bird-and-flower prints), brilliantly captures the brutal beauty of winter survival here, balancing the predator's power with the delicate, freezing atmosphere. Created during the early 20th-century Shin-hanga ('new prints') movement, this work blends traditional Japanese woodblock techniques with a touch of Western realism, making it a modernist masterpiece that became a huge hit in the West.
