Halcón cazando
1900 - 1910
Ohara Koson, a master of Japanese bird-and-flower prints (*kacho-e*), captures a moment of high-speed drama here. A white hawk dives steeply through a grey, rain-swept sky, wings spread wide as it targets a small dark bird hiding in the reeds below. In a funny twist of nature, the fierce predator seems to have two green caterpillars clinging to its chest mid-dive! Koson's works were incredibly popular in the West during the early 1900s, often exported to satisfy the Western craze for Japanese art and blending traditional techniques with a modern sensibility.
