1930
Olga Boznańska spent most of her adult life in Paris, far from her native Poland, and you can actually see "Paryż 1930" (Paris 1930) signed right in the top corner of this moody bouquet. Instead of bright, cheerful flowers, she uses a dark, heavily textured background that makes the vibrant reds and pinks of the gladioli almost glow with a melancholic energy. Her loose, expressive brushstrokes blur the line between the flowers and the shadows around them, showing how she evolved past strict Impressionism into something deeply atmospheric. It’s a beautiful example of her later work, where emotion took precedence over perfect realism.
