Group of Four with Grey
1930
Oskar Schlemmer, a star of the Bauhaus school, loved turning humans into geometric puzzles, and here he presents the backs of four nearly identical figures. Their rounded heads and bulbous blue bodies crowd together, staring intently at blank white rectangles that look like windows into another dimension. It's a classic example of his fascination with the 'mechanical ballet,' where people become almost like mannequins or puppets on a stage. Schlemmer was obsessed with how the human body fits into architectural space, making these figures feel both strangely robotic and deeply mysterious.
