ポントワーズ、シューの家々
circa 1881
Paul Cézanne painted this lush, green hideaway around 1881 while hanging out with his friend Camille Pissarro in Pontoise. Notice those thick, blocky brushstrokes? They look a bit messy up close, but they actually helped invent Cubism by turning nature into architectural blocks of color. The little white house peeks out from the dense forest like a secret cottage, surrounded by the vibrant, vibrating greens of the French countryside that Cézanne loved so much.
