Tanz der Motte
1923
Paul Klee created 'Dance of Moth' in 1923, a time when he was teaching at the Bauhaus and obsessed with the relationship between art and nature. The spindly, arrow-headed figure in the center looks like a moth caught in a beam of light, represented by the vertical pale strip cutting through the composition. Klee uses a grid of deep blues and soft pinks to create a moody, Expressionist atmosphere, contrasting the rigid structure with the chaotic, fluttering lines of the insect. It’s a beautiful example of how he turned simple geometric shapes into a story about fragility and movement.
