Paul Signac captured the majestic, windswept form of this ancient pine tree at his beloved estate in Saint-Tropez, known as La Bertaudie. Though he is most famous for his tiny dots of color in pointillist paintings, here he uses bold, swirling ink strokes to convey the tree's raw energy and character. The massive, mushroom-like canopy dominates the landscape, looking almost like a living cloud frozen in time against a sketchy sky. This drawing reveals a more expressive, structural side of the artist, focusing on movement rather than his signature color theories.
