Santa Margherita by Raphael, 1518

Saint Margaret stands triumphantly atop a vanquished dragon, her bare foot resting casually on its scaly wing while its gaping maw reveals a terrifying set of teeth just inches away. Clad in flowing blue and red robes, she holds a slender palm frond—a classic symbol of martyrdom—against a dark, shadowy backdrop that makes her serene figure practically glow. Legend says she was swallowed by a dragon but burst out unharmed when her faith caused the beast's belly to split open, which perfectly explains why she looks so completely unfazed by the monster beneath her!
