Konkai（Rituale delle anime）
1886
Yoshitoshi, the last great master of ukiyo-e, had a fascination with the supernatural that shines through in this eerie 1886 print. A figure with the head of a fox—likely a shapeshifting kitsune spirit—strides through a thicket of gnarled, yellow vines while wearing elaborate, layered robes and a flower-topped hood. This piece perfectly captures the spooky atmosphere of Japanese folklore, blending animalistic features with human elegance in a way that feels both mysterious and slightly unsettling.
