Pl. 18 – Night by William Blake, 1789

William Blake’s 'Night' is a page from his famous 1789 collection Songs of Innocence, where poetry and art dance together in perfect harmony. Instead of just illustrating the text, Blake wove the words right into the scene—look how the poem about the evening star and sleeping birds flows around a towering tree. At the bottom, a gentle lion rests near a cave, guarded by angels, showing Blake’s unique Romantic vision where even wild beasts are peaceful under the moon’s watchful eye. He invented a special printing method called 'illuminated printing' to create these, making each copy a unique hand-colored masterpiece.
