Rotolo dei Sei Destrieri del Mausoleo Zhao - Nucleo del dipinto 1
Meet 'Saluzi' (Purple Hare), one of the six legendary war horses of Emperor Taizong of Tang, captured here in a Jin Dynasty scroll by Zhao Lin. The dark, sturdy horse stands beside General Qiu Xingong, the hero who famously fought on foot to pull an arrow out of this horse's chest during a fierce battle, saving the emperor's life. Surrounded by elegant calligraphy that recounts these heroic deeds like an ancient action movie script, the piece preserves the memory of steeds originally immortalized in stone reliefs at the emperor's tomb.
