Bernardo Bellotto
Präzise, düstere europäische Stadtansichten
Bernardo Bellotto war ein italienischer Stadtlandschaftsmaler oder Vedutist sowie Radierer, der für seine Veduten europäischer Städte (Dresden, Wien, Turin und Warschau) berühmt ist. Er war Schüler und Neffe des berühmten Giovanni Antonio Canal Canaletto und nutzte zeitweise dessen illustren Namen, indem er sich als Bernardo Canaletto signierte. In Deutschland und Polen nannte sich Bellotto nach dem Namen seines Onkels Canaletto. Dies verursachte einige Verwirrung, jedoch sind Bellottos Werke farblich düsterer als die Canalettos und seine Darstellung von Wolken und Schatten rückt ihn näher an die niederländische Malerei heran. Bellottos Stil war geprägt von einer detaillierten Darstellung architektonischer und natürlicher Ansichten sowie von der spezifischen Lichtqualität jedes Ortes. Es ist durchaus plausibel, dass Bellotto und andere venezianische Meister der Vedutenmalerei die Camera Obscura nutzten, um eine überlegene Präzision bei Stadtansichten zu erzielen.
