Bernardo Bellotto
Vistas urbanas europeas precisas y sombrías
Bernardo Bellotto fue un pintor de paisajes urbanos italiano, o vedutista, y grabador al aguafuerte famoso por sus vedute de ciudades europeas (Dresde, Viena, Turín y Varsovia). Fue alumno y sobrino del famoso Giovanni Antonio Canal Canaletto y a veces utilizó el ilustre nombre de este último, firmándose como Bernardo Canaletto. En Alemania y Polonia, Bellotto se hizo llamar por el nombre de su tío, Canaletto. Esto causó cierta confusión; sin embargo, la obra de Bellotto es más sombría en color que la de Canaletto y su representación de nubes y sombras lo acerca más a la pintura holandesa. El estilo de Bellotto se caracterizaba por una representación elaborada de vistas arquitectónicas y naturales, y por la calidad específica de la iluminación de cada lugar. Es plausible que Bellotto, junto con otros maestros venecianos de la veduta, hayan utilizado la cámara oscura para lograr una precisión superior en las vistas urbanas.
