西蒙·武埃是一位法國畫家與素描家，如今或許最為人所銘記的是他協助將義大利巴洛克繪畫風格引入法國。 西蒙·武埃出生於巴黎。他的父親洛朗也是一位畫家，並教導他藝術的基礎知識。西蒙的弟弟奧班·武埃與他的孫子路多維科·多里尼也都是畫家。 西蒙最初以肖像畫家的身分展開其繪畫生涯。14歲時，他前往英格蘭繪製一幅受委託創作的肖像畫；1611年，他又作為法國駐鄂圖曼帝國大使桑西男爵隨行人員的一員，出於同樣目的前往當地。 他一直留在義大利，直到1627年，主要居住在巴洛克風格正逐漸佔據主導地位的羅馬。 他天生具有學術氣質，善於吸收所見所學，並將其融會貫通於自己的繪畫之中：卡拉瓦喬式的戲劇性光影；義大利風格主義；保羅·委羅內塞的色彩以及仰角透視（di sotto in su）或縮短透視法；還有卡拉奇、圭爾奇諾、蘭弗蘭科與圭多·雷尼的藝術風格。武埃在羅馬的巨大成功使他於1624年當選為聖路加學院院長。
