Model at Shore
1912
Anders Zorn captures a fleeting moment of summer here, with a nude model standing tentatively on a sandy bank, perhaps about to dip her toes into the cool water. The brushstrokes are loose and energetic, almost sketch-like, giving the scene a sense of immediacy as if we've just stumbled upon her in the woods. You can almost feel the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees onto her skin. Zorn was a Swedish master famous for his limited 'Zorn palette' of just four colors, yet he creates these lush forest greens masterfully by mixing black and yellow ochre.
