Alpine Architektur Pl. 4 by Bruno Taut, 1919

Right after the devastation of World War I, German architect Bruno Taut dreamed up a utopian future where nature and architecture merged into one spiritual entity. In this page from his 1919 book 'Alpine Architecture', he takes real mountain peaks like the Wetterhorn and imagines them transformed into crystalline cathedrals and glass spires. The handwritten German text on the left acts as a manifesto where the rocks themselves beg humans to 'build us' and become beautiful through the 'human spirit.' It’s a wild, Expressionist vision of a world where buildings aren't just boxes, but living, glowing extensions of the earth itself.
