Lisbeth and Brita by Carl Larsson, 1902

Carl Larsson was the master of capturing the idyllic Swedish summer, and this 1902 illustration is a perfect example. We see two young girls, Lisbeth and Brita, dressed in traditional folk costumes, standing inside a massive, colorful flower wreath made of daisies and cornflowers. The girl in the front wears a sweet pink-and-white striped dress and a straw hat, hugging a huge bouquet of blue flowers. While Larsson is famous for his cozy home scenes, this piece shows his Art Nouveau influences with its decorative, nature-focused composition, feeling like a snapshot of a perfect Midsummer celebration.
