The Doge’s Palace Seen from San Giorgio Maggiore
1908
Monet visited Venice in 1908 and was absolutely captivated by the changing light on the Doge's Palace, painting this dreamy, pastel-hued scene where the architecture almost dissolves into the shimmering water and misty sky. It's a perfect example of Impressionism, where the feeling of the moment matters far more than sharp, realistic details. He actually painted over 30 views of Venice during this trip, obsessing over how the light shifted from dawn to dusk! Fun fact: he was so worried about the weather ruining his trip that he almost didn't go, but ended up staying longer than planned because he couldn't stop painting.
