Spring Plowing, Hanging Scroll, 61x37, Zhejiang Museum by Dai Jin

Dai Jin, the founder of the Ming Dynasty's Zhe School, brings the countryside to life in this serene scroll titled 'Spring Plowing.' Farmers guide their water buffalo through the fields while towering, misty mountains and ancient pine trees loom in the background, creating a perfect balance between human labor and nature's grandeur. The bold calligraphy at the top was added centuries later by the famous collector Wu Hufan, essentially giving it a 'seal of approval' from a modern master. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in the grandest landscapes, the simple act of planting seeds is the real foundation of the world.
