Abstraction Based on Flower Forms, V
1921
David Kakabadzé turns nature into a whimsical puzzle of color in this 1921 abstraction, the fifth in a series exploring flower forms. Instead of realistic petals, we see bold, floating blobs of purple and blue hovering over a central yellow shape that resembles a little face or vessel. The composition is anchored by dark, pebble-like stones at the bottom, showing how Georgian artists adapted Cubism by trading rigid geometry for soft, organic shapes. Interestingly, Kakabadzé was a true polymath who later conducted pioneering research into the principles of holography, proving his mind was as forward-thinking as his art.
