Copy of Ji Jiu Zhang, Complete Chapter - Main Text 2
Think of this as the ancient Chinese equivalent of a handwriting workbook, but elevated to high art. This long scroll features a copy of the 'Jijiu Zhang' (Emergency Chapter), a Han Dynasty text originally designed to teach students cursive script quickly—hence the name 'emergency.' The artist, Deng Wenyuan, a celebrated calligrapher of the Yuan Dynasty, renders the text in a flowing, rhythmic style where characters seem to dance across the page. It's a fascinating glimpse into how practical educational materials from 2,000 years ago became treasured masterpieces of brushwork.
