Elegant figures in a courtyard
1628
Step into the glamorous world of 17th-century Dutch high society, where Dirck Van Delen creates a stunning illusion of depth in this courtyard scene. Notice how the towering columns and arches pull your eye straight back to the bright sky? It's a classic Baroque trick to make the space feel grand and infinite. The elegantly dressed figures and their playful dogs are showing off the latest fashion of the era, complete with wide-brimmed hats and ruffled collars. Van Delen was so obsessed with perfect perspective that he often let other artists paint the people, making this a true collaborative masterpiece!
