《콜리어스》 1908년 2월 22일호
1908
Designed by Edward Penfield for the February 22, 1908 issue of Collier's, this cover celebrates George Washington's birthday with striking simplicity. The first President stands in his Revolutionary War uniform beside a towering black warhorse, likely his famous mount Nelson, rendered in Penfield's signature flat, graphic style. As a pioneer of the American poster movement, Penfield used bold outlines and a limited palette of orange, black, and cream to create an image that feels almost like a Japanese woodblock print. You can even see the original price of 10 cents at the bottom, a tiny time capsule from the early 20th century.
