For the Voice Pl.16
1923
El Lissitzky designed this striking page for Vladimir Mayakovsky's 1923 poetry book *For the Voice*, which was intended to be performed aloud rather than read silently. Two stylized hands—one black, one red—point aggressively towards geometric crosses and the Russian text 'This is for you,' creating a bold, confrontational layout typical of the Constructivist movement. Lissitzky treated the book almost like a machine, even adding index tabs to the page edges so readers could flip directly to specific poems, effectively inventing a physical version of hyperlinks centuries before the internet.
