Keep clean
1936-1939
Bold block letters command you to 'KEEP CLEAN' in this striking 1930s poster created by Erik Hans Krause for the Federal Art Project. Using a sleek, modernist style with geometric shapes and a limited palette of muted reds and sage greens, the design features stylized hands and a scrub brush to promote public hygiene. Created during the Great Depression, this piece is a fantastic example of how the government employed artists to create practical, eye-catching public service announcements that still look incredibly chic today.
