Rebekka en Eliëzer aan de bron
1677 - 1755
Elias van Nijmegen's charming sketch captures a pivotal biblical matchmaking moment: Abraham's servant Eliezer kneeling before Rebekah at a well. After she kindly offers water to him and his thirsty camels, Eliezer realizes she's the perfect bride for his master's son, Isaac. The loose, airy brushstrokes and soft washes of color give the scene a spontaneous, almost theatrical feel. You can almost feel the dust of the journey and the relief of finding shade near the ancient ruins sketched in the background.
