Actiniae. – Sea Anemones
1904
Ernst Haeckel believed that biology was the highest form of art, and this 1904 plate from his legendary book *Kunstformen der Natur* (Art Forms in Nature) proves it. He depicts sea anemones not just as scientific specimens, but as a psychedelic underwater garden with flowing, hair-like tentacles and vibrant radial symmetry. These organic shapes were so beautiful that they actually helped inspire the Art Nouveau movement, showing that a scientist's sketchbook could rival a painter's canvas.
