Fécamp, The Port in Foggy Weather by Eugène Boudin, 1894

Eugène Boudin, often called the 'King of Skies,' captures the hazy, atmospheric magic of the Normandy coast in this misty harbor scene. Notice how the towering ship masts fade into the pale, cloudy sky, while a tiny red rowboat with two figures cuts through the calm, reflective water in the foreground. Boudin was a master of painting outdoors and actually mentored a young Claude Monet, teaching him to look at light and weather rather than just objects. This foggy view of Fécamp perfectly shows why he was considered the crucial bridge between traditional landscape painting and the birth of Impressionism.
