The Valley of the Touques by Eugène Boudin, circa 1888-1895

Eugène Boudin, often nicknamed the 'King of Skies,' lets the clouds absolutely steal the show in this breezy landscape of the Touques Valley. Painting outdoors to capture fleeting light, his textured brushstrokes capture the shifting weather of Normandy and directly influenced a young Claude Monet, whom he famously mentored to look up and observe the atmosphere. You can almost feel the wind rustling through the green pastures and hear the distant cows grazing under that massive, dramatic sky that dominates the composition.
