Jacob's Dream
Imagine taking a nap on a rock and dreaming of a celestial escalator—that's exactly what's happening here. Jacob is fast asleep in the foreground, clutching his staff, while above him, a golden staircase pierces through dramatic clouds. Angels are busy commuting up and down this heavenly highway, and at the very top, God stretches out his arms in a grand welcome. Filippo Lauri uses classic Baroque flair to turn a biblical story from Genesis into a dynamic spectacle of light and movement. It’s a vivid reminder that even a traveler's rest can be filled with divine drama.
