The Wood Loading
François Bocion captures a bustling yet serene moment at a harbor, where workers are busy stacking timber near the water's edge. The scene is dominated by a large sailboat with billowing white sails, its dark hull and rigging reflected perfectly in the calm, glassy water below. Painted in the Realist style, the artist pays meticulous attention to the textures of the rough wooden planks and the soft, drifting clouds above. It’s a peaceful snapshot of 19th-century labor, showing how daily commerce and nature coexisted along the water.
