P.L.M. Aix-les-Bains

1897

Think of this as the 1897 equivalent of a luxury travel ad. Commissioned by the PLM railway company, this poster promises a glamorous escape to the French Alps at Aix-les-Bains. A well-heeled woman and child relax by a rowboat on the shimmering Lake Bourget, gazing at majestic snow-capped mountains in the distance. The diamond-shaped inset at the bottom teases the 'Grand Cercle,' a fancy casino and social club, letting viewers know that high-society fun awaits them at the end of the train ride.
