The Monument and London Bridge
Frederick Nash captures a bustling day on the Thames before the old London Bridge was torn down in the 1830s. You can spot the famous Monument to the Great Fire of London standing tall on the left, keeping watch over the chaotic river traffic. In the foreground, workers are busy on a raft with bright red bundles, while sailboats and rowboats dart across the water. This scene is a time capsule of Regency London, showing the bridge with its narrow arches that caused such terrible traffic jams that pedestrians often took boats instead!
