A Game of Tavli
Giulio Rosati invites us into a quiet, richly decorated room where three men are deeply engrossed in a game of Tavli, a traditional Middle Eastern board game similar to backgammon. Notice the incredible detail in the textiles—from the patterned rugs covering the walls to the intricate hanging lamp—showcasing the artist's obsession with Orientalist aesthetics. It's a scene of leisure, complete with a hookah and a tray of coffee, capturing a moment of calm social interaction that European audiences found fascinatingly exotic in the late 19th century.
