Jeune chat avec une souris
Gottfried Mind, famously nicknamed the 'Raphael of Cats' for his obsession with felines, captures a rather grim moment of kittenhood here. A fluffy white kitten with tortoiseshell spots proudly trots across the page, a freshly caught mouse dangling from its jaws. Despite the predatory subject matter, the kitten's wide, innocent yellow eyes make it look more like it's showing off a prize than committing a crime. Mind spent years studying cats in Bern, Switzerland, and his detailed observations make the fur look soft enough to pet, even if the mouse looks a bit worse for wear.
