Rinaldo ed Armida
Guercino brings the epic romance of Torquato Tasso's 'Jerusalem Delivered' to life with typical Baroque drama and emotional intensity. The sorceress Armida, originally sent to assassinate the knight Rinaldo, finds herself falling hopelessly in love instead—a twist perfectly captured by her wide-eyed, startled expression as the armored knight holds her arm. The rich reds of the cloak and the gleaming armor contrast beautifully with her pale dress, highlighting the sudden tension between war and romance.
