Invierno
1905
Gustav Jahn, an Austrian painter and avid mountaineer, captures the crisp silence of winter in this 1905 landscape where deep snowdrifts frame a dark, winding stream. Notice the trail of footprints on the left bank—they invite you to imagine a solitary walk through the frost, leading toward the cozy, teal-colored cottage in the distance. On the right, two figures bundled in warm clothes trudge along a fence, adding a touch of human life to the vast, icy expanse. Tragically, Jahn died young in a climbing accident, making his intimate, realistic portrayals of the Alpine landscape—created during the Art Nouveau period—all the more poignant.
